Homer Chamber of Commerce Halibut Jackpot Derby

The annual Homer, Alaska Halibut Fishing Derby is sponsored by the Homer Chamber of Commerce and local businesses. There’s lots of fun and great fishing out of Homer, the “Halibut Capital of the World.” This fishing derby is the largest and longest running Jackpot Derby in Alaska. A monster ”barn-door” halibut weighing over 277 pounds caught in August netted a Fairbanks resident $40,610 last year. You’re invited to participate in 2011, and remember to purchase a derby ticket in addition to your 2011 sport fishing license before you start fishing. Derby runs from May through September annually.
